A large part of our business at Schutt Log Homes is creating custom Oak log home kits and custom Oak barn kits. This is something we love to do. We understand every person has their own needs, wants and style. Our process for creating a custom kit is focused on making sure each customer has a kit they will love in the end. The process for creating a custom kit is quite simple: First draw out your basic design. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated or elaborate. We have even received floor plans on napkins. Just show the outside dimensions, rooms sizes, how many levels, porches, garages, etc. When we receive this we will give you a rough estimate on your kit. This estimate can change through the design process if the cabin is made larger, rooms are added, walls are made higher and such. Few first designs are exactly the same at the end of the process. If you agree with the bid we give and decide to create a kit we will send your design to our digital designer. She will work with you to create your design into a 3D layout of your home or barn. She will digitally place all walls, stairs, windows, doors, porches, etc. on the design to be sure everything works where it is placed. This helps ensure doors open correctly and everything is in proportion and makes sense in the layout. Sometimes what looks great on flat paper just doesn’t work when it’s seen in 3D. After this 3D layout is approved by you a comprehensive building manual is created. This manual is an illustrated guide made specifically for your kit to assist in the building process. At this point we will place your kit in the work order for the mill. Please note: Depending on our current number of orders this can mean a 2-3 week window up to a 4-5 month window. We will discuss this with you.
